We saw him in concert a few months ago. He still has the pipes.

I've always liked him but I have to admit that for me his earliest stuff was best WONDERFUL WONDERFUL WONDERFUL (the album that didn't have "Wonderful Wonderful" on it) JOHNNY'S GREATEST HITS and OPEN FIRE, TWO GUITARS. There are a lot of other songs of his I've liked too of course. What an amazing run he's had. Mathis and Nat King Vole are still my favorite balledeers.

To me the most impressive thing was that he almost went to the 1956 Olympics as a high jumper. He decided on the music career instead.

Johnny Mathis's Greatest Hits is credited by Wikipedia as the first greatest hits album. I don't know about that but I know it was on the Billboard Top 100 Albums chart for nearly 500 (491) consecutive weeks.

Also - and I can't believe Bill forgot to mention it - he's from Texas.

This reminds me of that scene in Diner.

Eddie: "Who do you make out to? Mathis or Sinatra?"

[Pause]

Boogie: "Presley."
